Martijn Dragt became the first player at the European Q-School 2024 to grab a Tour Card. The Dutchman became day winner on the opening night of the final stage and thus immediately secured a Tour Card. In an interview with Darts Actueel, Dragt talked about his participation in Q-School and his next two years on the Tour.
Martijn Dragt had also competed alaan Q-School in 2023, but did not make it through the opening stage. Dragt did get through the opening stage this year and then reached the final on the first day of the final stage, where he defeated compatriot Chris Landman. Dragt definitely went to Q-School with the intention of grabbing a Tour Card, but did not expect to grab it right on the first day.' 'I had no transportation back at all. The guys I had traveled there with were already going home, not knowing that I would grab a Tour Card that day.'' After his day's victory, Dragt received many congratulations. You notice that it is very much alive. There were many people, who normally do not follow darts, who sent me a message.''
The 35-year-old Dutchman qualified for the Baltic Sea Darts Open last year. There he consecutively defeated Ricky Evans and Rob Cross to finally lose to Ryan Searle in the last 16. "Next year I will experience what it's like to play on the floor against those guys. I think the level there is much higher than on stage.
Dragt works as a transportation planner, but now has to take into account that the Players Championships will be played during the week. ''Before I went to Q-School I already arranged with my work that I can play those tournaments.'' Dragt has no clear goals he wants to achieve in the next two years on the Tour. 'The first goal is of course to get into the top 64. I think it will be fine.''
