In the run-up to the resumption of the Premier League Darts 2020 on August 25, Dartsnews looks back on the performances per player in the first six weeks of the competition. This time, Peter Wright is in the spotlight.
Wright has been performing very inconsistent in the
Premier League Darts for years. That is no different this year and after six matches, the reigning world champion is in a slightly disappointing fifth place.
This is mainly due to a bad start, as he only won one of his first four matches. Snakebite opened the league with a
7-5 defeat to Michael van Gerwen in Aberdeen. A week later he
won a point against Gary Anderson, despite averaging only 88.72.
Wright claimed his first win of the competition on Night Three with a
7-5 victory over Rob Cross. But he followed this up with a disappointing
7-1 loss to Gerwyn Price with a below-par 83.59 average.
The last two matches in the competition were more hopeful for the colorful Scot. With an average of 110,
he beat Nathan Aspinall (7-3), and then won
7-4 against Michael Smith.
In two weeks time, Wright worked his way up
from the eighth place to the fifth place. With seven points, he has as many points as the numbers three and four, but Wright still has something to make up for on the leg difference.
The 2017 Premier League finalist will face league-leader
Glen Durrant, challenger
Jeffrey de Zwaan and
Daryl Gurney in his next three games.
