Unlike the non-British World Championship participants, Gerwyn Price can go home during the Christmas break at the PDC World Darts Championship. The Iceman will certainly make use of this possibility.
The Welshman thus takes a risk as players need to go another COVID-19 test before they can resume their World Championship campaign after Christmas. Price is aware of this risk, but prefers to celebrate Christmas in Wales.
''It's a risk, with everything that's going on. But I've got young girls and they're only growing up once. They're more important to me than this tournament. I do rather wake up Christmas day those [way] then wake up on January 3rd with the trophy. If I come back and fail [with] the test, then this will be it'', the world number three said after beating Jamie Lewis in the second round.
If Price can show a negative test after Christmas, he can continue his quest for the world title and the world number one position. The two-time Grand Slam champion needs to win this tournament to claim the top spot on the PDC Order of Merit.
''Obviously it's realistic and I think about it. I'm sure Peter [Wright] thinks about it and he probably says he doesn't. I know for a fact that Michael is thinking that if he loses he loses that top spot and he doesn't want to do it. I know there is a lot of pressure on Michael's shoulders to not lose that number one spot.''
