The second semi-finalist is confirmed at the 2023
World Cup of Darts with Belgium (Kim Huybrechts and
Dimitri van den Bergh) dethroning Australia duo (Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock).
This was not without sheer darting drama in the deciding leg as Damon Heta missed double 20 for a 120 checkout enabling
Kim Huybrechts to hit double eight for a narrow 8-7 win.
This after initial confusion on the scoring with Belgium going from 301 to 161 with a 140 and referee Russ Bray called that they required 141.
The Belgians got off to an excellent start to the match. With a 107 finish, 16-darter, 13-darter and a 14-darter, the two Belgians quickly grabbed a 4-1 lead. Australia then came back to 4-4 thanks to a 12-darter and a 64 finish.
However, Belgium then managed to regain a 7-5 lead after Australia missed five chances in the 12th leg to make it 6-6. With an 80 check-out and a 12-darter, the two defending champions fought their way back to 7-7 before drama ensued as was mentioned.
