The action continues towards its conclusion in the first round of the
World Cup of Darts with the first two ties of the evening seeing victories for Japan and South Africa in Jena.
To begin, the new Japanese pairing of Matsuda Jun and Yoshihisa Baba made light work of experienced Russian, Boris Koltsov and his partner, Evgenii Izotov.
It was a 5-1 win as they averaged 82 while hitting 5/19 on their doubles, this compared to a 79 average and only 1/5 from their opponents who would have been heavily fancied to come through.
They will now face the winners of one of the games of the opening night in Germany facing Canada.
While South Africa who once again pitted Devon Petersen and Carl Gabriel against Spain's Jesus Nogeura and Jose Justicia produced some darting drama with an excellent last leg triumph.
Gabriel added his name to the heroics early on in proceedings with a 2-1 lead and a 76 checkout on the bullseye to see South Africa ahead.
Justicia drew level though for Spain at 2-2 with an immediate break back to continue the level pegging. Petersen showed his satisfaction as he broke again to make it 3-2 and South Africa finally consolidated it to make it 4-2.
South Africa had the throw to win it but an off leg again allowed Spain to break and send it all the way with a 98 checkout.
Noguera had one match dart at double 20 but going back to Justicia didn't help and Gabriel came back for a last dart double 20 which was celebrated passionately by Petersen.
