Co Stompé put an end to his darts career at the beginning of this year. The 58-year-old Dutchman now works at Schiphol Airport.
Stompé is certainly not looking for a comeback anymore.
"Last year I played a few more tournaments, together with my son. Those were tournaments of the PDC Q-School. A lot of media wrote that I wanted to come back as a professional, but that was not the case at all. I just liked it to be out with my son, bit of quality time as they say," Stompé told Panorama.
World Seniors
The first World Seniors will take place in Purfleet, England, starting next year. "23 wildcards were handed out for that tournament, but I didn't get one," says Stompé. "I think it's strange: in 2010 I won the World Cup of Darts with Raymond van Barneveld, that's not nothing. I can participate, but then I have to qualify first. I don't feel like it anymore. It will cost me a few hundred pounds anyway to go to England and by then everyone from outside England may have to quarantine for another ten days.”
Working at Schiphol
In his own words, 'The Matchstick' is not bored. "I have been working at Schiphol since last year. I started with that in Covid time and I like it very much. I am actually done with the darts world. Not to throw a dart myself or to talk about it in a studio, but it doesn't have to be that much for me. I will be sixty next year and I still do plenty of fun things. I really can't lie on the couch, that's why I started at Schiphol last year."
