It is still 12 months until the next edition of the Grand Slam of Darts, but the first two participants have already been confirmed. Both Luke Littler and Martin Lukeman will not have to worry about qualifying for the major tournament in Wolverhampton in the coming season.
The Grand Slam of Darts is one of the biggest tournaments on the PDC's calendar. But unlike tournaments such as the World Matchplay and World Grand Prix, it is not the case that the top-16 in the world rankings and top-16 in the Pro Tour rankings qualify for the event. One way to do qualify is to reach a final at a televised tournament. So the beginning of this cycle begins right away with the previous edition of the Grand Slam of Darts. Luke Littler and Martin Lukeman were in the most recent final of the Grand Slam, immediately securing participation in 2025.
The finalists of the World Darts Championship, Premier League Darts, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Masters, UK Open, European Championship, Players Championship Finals, World Series of Darts Finals, World Cup of Darts and PDC World Youth Championship may also compete in the Grand Slam of Darts.
Should this list not yield sixteen players, winners of Euro Tour tournaments and possibly further Players Championship tournaments will be considered. In addition, several winners of rankings on the secondary PDC Tour will also be invited, as well as winners of the North American Championship, PDC Asian Championship and Women's World Matchplay. Finally, eight more starting spots are up for grabs at the qualifying tournament for Tour Card holders.
The 2024 Grand Slam of Darts was won by Littler, who made his Wolverhampton debut at the age of 17. After beating Gary Anderson 16-15 in an absolute cracker in the semifinals, 'The Nuke' recorded a resounding 16-3 victory over Lukeman in the final.
