Dirk van Duijvenbode had set himself the goal of reaching the Quarter-Finals prior to the World Championship. He succeeded, but
Aubergenius refuses to be satisfied already with the result he has achieved.
The Dutchman already had impressive victories over Bradley Brooks (from 0-2 down to 3-2), former world champion Rob Cross (3-2 after sudden-death), Adam Hunt (4-0) and Glen Durrant (4 -3 after sudden-death) at the World Championship.
His next goal is a place in the Semi-Finals. ''Actually the tournament is really starting now. I currently have the mindset I'm not satisfied yet. You can be happy and euphoric with a place in the Quarter-Finals, but then you will lose in the last eight'', Van Duijvenbode told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
Van Duijvenbode will face two-time world champion and darts idol Gary Anderson in the Quarter-Finals. Aubergenius lost his first four meetings with the Scotsman, but beat him during his run to the World Grand Prix final in October.
''I was never able to win, because he was my idol. The last time I won and that changes how I'm going into this match. At first I had no idea at all that I could beat him. But now that I've defeated him once, things are different.''
Putting away the phone
Van Duijvenbode received thousands of messages after previous performances at the World Championship. He tried to read and answer them all at first, but that turned out to be impossible. In preparation for the match with Anderson, the phone will be put aside to fully focus on his upcoming game.
''Answering everyone is now impossible. I still try to read all of my texts and sometimes answer them. You also have to save your energy a bit. I'm going to get rid of my phone, it just takes a lot of energy.''
