As Luke Littler fever takes the darting world by storm, the players are feeling the benefit by increased media attention. But also when it comes to increased motivation admits Peter Wright.
Wright who picked up his first points in the Premier League finally on Thursday night in Nottingham discussed Littler and said that there was Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Eric Bristow as previous kings of darts, but that the new kid on the block could soon take over.
'Snakebite' admitted that it is now up to him and others to step up their game or be left behind by the darting juggernaut.
"We've got a new kid on the block who's doing crazy stuff and making it look so easy. He's the next person who is going to rule the roost. We had Taylor, Bristow, Van Gerwen, we all thought everyone on their day can beat anyone. But this kid is something else, something special.
"He's got something special. We've all got to step up our game or be left behind."
But could he be the best ever? Wright believes it is only ever momentary. "Yeah he can, until someone comes along in 10 or 15 years time. Depends what he wants to do with his life, or if he gets fed up with stuff to do with the media. As long as he's interested, he's going to be dangerous to darts. It's only going to go up because of him."
