Wright produces seventh highest average in World Matchplay history during Van Gerwen win

Peter Wright made his stamp on World Matchplay history with a record breaking foray when facing off against Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals.

His mark of 110.37 was the highest average in semi-final history at the showpiece event but was the seventh of all time.

Phil Taylor leads the way in the previously published list with 114.99 in his first round tie against Barrie Bates with averages also of 113.43 and 112.17 in 1997 and 2002 respectively.

But Wright's effort also stands out as the second highest average past the Quarter-Finals so over the longer format with only Phil Taylor's 111.23 in the 2013 final eclipsing that.
