WDF World Open cancelled, Lakeside qualifiers still to go ahead

Additional Coronavirus measures have once against paid heed to the WDF's plans to host a tournament at Bonte Wever in Assen with the World Open which was due to take place on Saturday December 4, 2021 cancelled.

Instead, there will now be two Lakeside Qualifiers going ahead that weekend with the WDF, NDB and EDO making the decision to host them.

One will take place at the Bonte Wever in Assen still, while a further qualifier has been announced to take place at Lakeside itself with two men and one lady moving into the draw for the World Championship.

Should either qualifying competition be cancelled due to the introduction of further Covid restrictions, four men, two women, four boys and two girls will qualify for the Lakeside World Championships from the remaining qualifying competition and any player can enter either qualifier.

Richard Ashdown, Chief Development Officer for WDF said: “With the introduction of the corona virus measures, it is simply impossible to host an event like the World Open that attracts hundreds of people from inside and outside Europe. As much as we were delighted to be able to meet everyone live again in De Bonte Wever for a great darts party, we are forced to cancel the tournament.”
