Scott Mitchell wins opening match at World Seniors Darts Championship

Scott Mitchell has become the first darter to qualify for the last sixteen at the World Seniors Darts Championship. 'Scotty Dog' won 3-1 in sets over Matt Clark in the first round.

Mitchell is considered one of the outsiders at this tournament. At times, the former Lakeside champion showed why. His average of 86.54 didnt quite reflect the level of darts he showed at times.

Thanks to a 14-darter by Mitchell in the fourth leg of the first set, the first set was decided after only five legs. It became the worst leg became the match, but it went to Mitchell with a 26-darter.

Clark then came back well by winning the second set 3-1 with an 11-darter and a 15-darter. Certainly Clark's 68 finish in the fourth leg of the second set was a fine check-out to be called.

After that, the match still went the way of Mitchell. The 53-year-old Englishman won the third set 3-0 via a 15-darter, 16-darter and an 18-darter. Then 'Scotty Dog' won the fourth set 3-1, allowing Mitchell to report to the second round of this tournament.
