John Henderson could add the second piece of his WSDT puzzle later this evening when he takes on either Robert Thornton or Leonard Gates in the final of the 2024 World Seniors Matchplay in York.
Henderson sealed a 9-6 win over
Richie Howson who has been a real success story of the World Seniors Darts Tour and is the current Champion of Champions so a quality operator.
But the WSDT World Champion was superb throughout and took his chances when Howson wouldn't. He hit two 180's, an 87 average and hit 9/16 on the doubles. The main stat was his legs won throwing first. He won 7/8 compared to 5/7 from Howson in the end as he claimed a superb win. He stands on the verge of glory again.
Henderson took first blood in the tie with a 76 checkout to make it 1-0. Howson led 2-1 but Henderson regained the lead. 'The Owl' missed the bull to level up.
He was royally punished as instead of coming back for a makeable finish, he was left thinking what if as Henderson threw a superb 111 checkout with his rocking action at full flight to go 4-3 up.
Howson remain a break down constantly as Henderson despite missing the chance at 110 for a 7-3 lead wasn't going to panic as Howson hit 71 to head into the interval 6-4 down. Henderson kept his lead and kept the impetus up on throw hitting his famous double 20 for a 8-5 lead and he got to the magic nine on his next throw.
Howson couldn't pin 139 and Henderson left 72 and got a shot at double 20 instead of the treble 16, double 12 combo that was initially slated. But it was old faithful and it will either be the 'Soulger' or an old friend in Thornton.
