Michael van Gerwen has claimed the #1 seeding for the
European Championship in Hasselt at the end of the month.
'Mighty Mike' has won 6 events this year to do so with the next two in the ranking also having wins on the Euro Tour with Peter Wright having 5 and Michael Smith having a solitary title in Gibraltar when a lot of the big names were not involved.
Mensur Suljovic would have got close to claiming that 3rd spot had he played this past weekend but a late withdrawal meant a fourth spot for one of the top players this year in
PDC darts.
Of the players to miss out they include James Wade who hasn't played in a lot of Euro Tour events this year mainly due to form after previously being a seed. As well as Wade, Max Hopp will miss out on the tournament with Martin Schindler the sole German representation.
Of course the likes of Adrian Lewis, Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld & Gary Anderson won't be there due to their desire at least for the moment in terms of Lewis and Barney especially to play the Euro Tour. Lewis did play a few and did try to get in through qualifiers unlike the others but due to personal problems he couldn't attempt them all something Lewis has said he wants to put right next year.
