Winstanley after reaching maiden World final at Lakeside: ‘I’m absolutely over the moon’

Lorraine Winstanley is through to a maiden BDO Lakeside World Championship Final after seeing off Anastasia Dobromyslova.
Afterwards she spoke and understandably she was over the moon despite it not being her best by her own admission.
‘I’m absolutely over the moon, still not the best performance but I just found a bit of grip when I needed to find it and I wasn’t going down without a fight.’
On the format of the rounds in the Ladies draw, she says she wished it was longer as best of three is cutthroat.
‘Best of three is so cutthroat. Personally I think it should be best of five through to the final maybe best of seven but we can hope and pray for changes.’
Finally on facing Anastasia, her best friend, she said that while it was hard she has had one over her for the past few years so it was her turn to win.
‘I hate playing her, she’s my best friend. I’m the godmother to her son but she’s done me the past few years so it was my turn.’

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
