The Dutch men ensured success for the Netherlands last weekend by winning the men's team event. The Dutch team consisted of Wesley Plaisier, Alexander Merkx, Moreno Blom, Dennie Olde Kalter and Ryan de Vreede.
The Six Nations Cup is a tournament for players without a PDC Tour Card. The national associations of the Netherlands, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland each delegate a men's and women's team. This year, the event took place in the Northern Irish town of Newtownabbey.
In the group stage of the men's tournament, the Dutch team won over Wales (13-8), but went down against Northern Ireland (10-13). The win over Wales did allow the Netherlands to advance to the semi-finals as number two. There, England (consisting of Paul Hogan, James Hurrell, Jamie Atkins, Reece Colley and Scott Mitchell) were comfortably beaten 13-5.
In the final, another encounter awaited with the Northern Ireland team of Chris Gilliland, Ricky Dunlop, Colin McGarry, Daniel McDonald and Neil Duff. The Dutchmen took revenge for their defeat in the pool phase by winning the final 13-10.
The men's singles tournament was won by Jamie Bain, who was too strong for Scott Mitchell in the final (5-3). Rhian O'Sullivan won the ladies' singles tournament by defeating Beau Greaves (5-3).
Greaves did succeed in the women's team event. Together with compatriots Lorraine Winstanley and Deta Hedman, they won 5-1 over Scotland in the final.
