Former World Championship participant Toon Greebe passes away at age 35

Toon Greebe passed away on Monday morning at the age of 35. The darter from Den Bosch had been struggling with health problems for several years.

Greebe made it to the PDC's World Darts Championship twice early this century. He was there in 2008 when it was first played at Alexandra Palace. Then he narrowly lost 3-2 in sets to Peter Manley. Two years later, Greebe competed again at Ally Pally and then John Part was too strong in the first round 3-0 in sets.

In late 2017, due to a severe infection, his right foot had to be amputated. Still, there was good news to report again in 2019. He won the Polish Open showing a future still in darts.

Then his health went downhill again, and in late 2022 the lower part of his left leg also had to be amputated. His passing has already caused quite a reaction from the darts world.

Paul Nicholson, among others, came forward with a comment. "Desperately sad day for all who knew Toon. I’ll remember his sense of humour most of all. RIP dude.,'' Nicholson wrote.
