Gerwyn Price kept his hopes of second World Grand Prix title alive on Wednesday night courtesy of a 3-0 win over Krzysztof Ratajski in Leicester.
Despite the seemingly comfortable scoreline however, there wasn't much the separate the pair with each set going the distance. "I think it was a tough battle against myself," Price said in a post-match interview with Tungsten Tales. "I was trying to work out the pace of the game and trying to hit doubles, trying to score in between. So yeah, all elements were against me."
"It was quite a slow game and I mean, if I can hit my doubles to start and deal with the pace of the game a little bit better than I'll be all right. But yeah, I wasn't dealing with it very good today."
Price was then asked if he thought Krzysztof was deliberately trying to slow the pace down, but 'The Iceman' didn't believe that. ''I don't think Krzysztof is that sort of player. But it's hard to deal with those sort of players, whether they try or not. It was difficult to deal with, but it's just his game and I don't think it did it on purpose.
A winner of the unique double-start tournament back in 2020, Price hasn't won an major, ranking TV title since the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts. The Welshman is keen to bring an end to that barren spell this week.
"Over the next couple of months, I promise I'll get a lot better and I'll be a bit more consistent but at the minute my game's not where I want to be," he assesses. "Chizzy's been playing fantastic all this year, first round he's gone out and probably people were saying he's one of the favorites to win this."
