Joe Cullen has eased into the third round at the PDC World Darts Championship. The 14th seed was comfortably too good for English-Australian Darren Penhall, winning 3-0 via six 180s and a 93.41 average.
Kicking off his 2024 World Darts Championship campaign strongly, Cullen raced through the first set. Including a brilliant 160 finish, the 'Rockstar' was able to comfortably stretch into an early 1-0 lead.
Set 2 was much closer as Penhall began to show some opposition for Cullen. With the set going all the way to a deciding leg, Cullen kicked into gear once again, firing six perfect darts before cleaning up in 14 darts in double 4.
Beginning set 3 with a break of throw, Cullen started to push towards the finish line. Holding throw in the following leg, the former Masters champion and Premier League finalist moved to one leg away from the third round. With Cullen waiting on 24 for the match, Penhall clipped in a 101 checkout to prolong the encounter but not for much longer as Cullen sealed the win in the following leg.
