Menzies pulls off comeback as Shepherd and West coast to victories in Saarbrucken

Kirk Shepherd enjoyed a fine return to the European tour as he cruised past Simon Stevenson 6-1 in the days opening match.

The Martial Dartist averaged 93 in his victory, whilst hitting 6/11 double attempts.Shepherd set the tone, breaking the Stevenson throw in the first leg. Stevenson hit back to level it up at 1-1, but didn't really get a look in in the next five legs, Shepherd taking the lot for the match. His reward for victory will be a second round match up with Gerwyn Price.
Steve West joined Shepherd in the second round with a resounding 6-2 victory over Matt Edgar. 'Simply West' averaged just shy of 100 as he once again failed to finish around the 50% mark on doubles. 6/19 his final tally. Similar to the first game, all the resistance came in the early legs. West taking a 2-0 lead before Edgar hit back to level up. West then reeled off 4 consecutive legs for the match. He will now face Darren Webster in the second round.
Cameron Menzies will also be in the second day of action in Saarbrucken, for the only the second time in his European tour career. He defeated Terry Jenkins 6-4, despite Jenkins having a 4-1 lead over his younger opponent.
Jenkins was making his first appearance on the European tour in almost 18 months after his self-imposed exile last year and made the perfect start, getting out to a healthy lead. Menzies responded in the perfect way, hitting 4 15 darters and a 13 dart leg to recover the deficit, and book his place in the second round. Menzies' next opponent will be Ian White.
