THROWBACK VIDEO: Wade and Thornton make history at World Grand Prix with two nine-dart finishes in one game

The 2022 World Grand Prix will start on Monday 3 October and in the run up to this unique tournament, we take a look back at some of the best moments.

In 2014, James Wade and Robert Thornton made history by both hitting a rarely seen double start nine-dart finish in the same game.

'The Machine' threw his perfect leg in the second set, 'The Thorn' followed suit in set four. It is still the only time that two different players have managed to hit them in the same game.

For the Scot, the match had an extra significance, Thornton had buried his late mother earlier that day. The two-time major winner dedicated the 9-darter to his late mother.
