Michael van Gerwen won three PDC majors this year (World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and Premier League). In the world rankings, the 33-year-old Dutchman is currently in third place. On the alternative Power Ranking, however, he is in first place.
On the Power Rankings, a world ranking maintained by PDC statistician Christopher Kempf, Van Gerwen is well in the lead. On this ranking, which compiles the performances of the past year, you get points depending on, among other things, how far you get in a tournament and also which higher-ranked players you beat. You also get many more points for a major than for a Euro Tour or Players Championship.
Big lead
Van Gerwen is well ahead of number two Luke Humphries in this alternate world ranking. The 27-year-old Englishman has already won four Euro Tours this year and now sees that rewarded in these rankings. In third place we find Damon Heta. The Heat has already won two Players Championships and the Gibraltar Darts Trophy this year, at majors, however, he has a harder time performing for now.
