VIDEO: Van Gerwen triumphs with 170 finish at Shanghai Darts Masters

Michael van Gerwen made a good impression in the first round of the Shanghai Darts Masters. The 29-year-old Dutchman booked a 6-1 victory over Lihao Wen, who made his second appearance at the World Series event in China.

'Mighty Mike' seemed to be looking for a 170 finish against the Chinese qualifier. In seven legs Van Gerwen left 170 at four occasions and 164 once.
In the fifth leg, at his third attempt, the two-time world champion finally hit 'The Big Fish'. Van Gerwen left 170 after nine darts and hit the treble 20 twice, before he found the bullseye to complete the highest possible checkout.
One leg earlier, Wen managed to claim a leg after the world number one missed four doubles. After the fifth leg, 'MvG' kept his focus and celebrated a 6-1 victory.
