Nathan Aspinall is in a fierce battle for a spot in the play-offs in his first full year in the Premier League Darts.
The Asp currently sits on the fifth place with thirteen points after twelve nights. That's as many as number four Gerwyn Price. Aspinall's gap to number two Gary Anderson is also only two points.
Which means the Stockport ace still has a good chance of participating on the final evening. However, it is not yet certain whether the play-offs will be played with an audience. Aspinall states the Premier League will not lose his value when the play-offs are played without crowd.
''This has been the strongest and toughest Premier League ever. If I came out on top at the end it wouldn’t matter about the crowd'', he told Dutch website Dartsnieuws.com in an interview.
The completion of the league phase of the
Premier League Darts is one of the darts appointments in September. Traditionally, this month marks the start of a busy period in the run-up to the World Championship in December.
Since the circuit has been shut down for months, the Premier League is a great opportunity for Aspinall to get match rhythm towards the upcoming tournaments.
It (lack of rhythm) has affected my game as I’m not a massive practicer. That’s why I struggled at the
PDC Summer Series and especially the
World Matchplay. However the ten nights at the Premier Peague, playing at such a high standard every night, will help me massively going into another busy period in September'', the former UK Open champion said.
Spending more time at home
On the other hand, the darts break was a welcome opportunity to spend more time at home. Since his rise on the darts circuit at the end of 2018, The Asp has been away from home more often as he is playing in more tournaments.
''It was really nice to spend some time with the family as the last two years for all of us have been a bit crazy. It gave me time to look at how far I’ve come, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the break to be honest'', Aspinall admitted.
Goals for next few months
In the next few weeks Aspinall will be exchanging his familiar bedroom for hotel beds more often. First in Milton Keynes for the Premier League Darts and then in Germany and Austria for Pro Tour tournaments and the World Series of Darts Finals.
Aspinall has set himself three goals for the upcoming months. ''Firstly finishing in the top four of the Premier League. Also I would like to win one of the Pro Tours in Germany, aswell as pushing to reach no.2 in England as it would be a dream come true to make the team for the World Cup of Darts.''
