Breaking news coming out of Dusseldorf is that
Michael van Gerwen has withdrawn from the German Darts Masters. 'Mighty Mike' played in the first round last night but was seemingly in lots of pain despite his injury being to his ankle but not his lead ankle that he plays darts on.
He was due to play in the second round today after overcoming Martin Schindler last night quite comfortably despite the injury but his opponent
James Wade who impressed against Kevin Munch last night now receives a bye to the semi-finals and means that it looks likely that Gary Anderson will finish top of the
World Series Order of Merit no matter what happens leading to him being number 1 seed at his home tournament in Glasgow in a few weeks.
Michael van Gerwen had a few words about pulling out of the tournament and was understandably devastated about it but sees it as an opportunity to rest up so he's right for the rest of the year.
"Obviously I am devastated to pull out but as anyone could see last night my foot was in bad way," said Van Gerwen.
"On medical advice I have unfortunately decided to withdraw and now I am going to concentrate on getting it better for the rest of the year." https://twitter.com/OfficialPDC/status/921679891254448128
