Dave Chisnall claims 17th career ProTour title, first of 2024 with Players Championship 6 triumph over Dirk van Duijvenbode

After winning multiple ProTour titles as well as being a dominant force on the European Tour in 2023, Dave Chisnall has began his 2024 title haul at the sixth Players Championship in Hildesheim on Tuesday afternoon.

Chisnall defeated Dirk van Duijvenbode 8-6 in the final for his 17th career ProTour title. This was despite only averaging 90 during the contest, he joins Raymond van Barneveld as the two victors from this latest double header.

Chisnall went 3-0 up in the early going. But with an 11-darter, Van Duijvenbode opened his account. A back and forth ensued from there with the Dutchman making it 5-5 from 5-3. A turning point came though with Chisnall going one away.

He slammed in a 135 to make it 7-5 in the race to eight. Van Duijvenbode prolonged the tie after Chisnall couldn't finish it off but after Chisnall missed a match dart, Van Duijvenbode had a chance to send it to a decider but couldn't and the St Helens ace cleaned it up to make it 8-6 and seal the title.
