Luke Humphries will make his third European Tour appearance of the year on Friday at the Austrian Darts Championship. He is currenty fighting his way through his mental health problems and plans to get far in the tournament.
The World Championship Quarter-Finalist
faces Jamie Hughes in the first round at the Austrian Darts Championship and hopes to be in the tournament as long as possible. Humphries will be aiming for a quarter-final spot in Vienna, he told
Dartsnews in an interview.
"Hopefully I can go on a decent run at least to the quarter-finals. I know I’m capable of that", said Humphries.
"They are vital for me to qualify for all the major tournaments. It is also great to get up onto the big stage and show the audience how good you are."
The two-time PDC Development Tour ranking-winner
was diagnosed with an anxiety and a panic problem earlier this year. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel for 'Cool Hand Luke'.
"I was diagnosed with a aniexty and panic problem [...]. Although I’m definitely fighting through it and learning different ways to control those feelings."
For the rest of the year, Humphries has set himself two major goals, which he will achieve if he shows consistency.
"The goals for me to end the year out would be to qualify for the Players Championship Finals and the World Championship. And if I can just stay consistent for the rest of the year those goals will be met."
