Meulenkamp felt tie with Van der Voort slip out of grasp: "At the end I just came up short"

Ron Meulenkamp succumbed to a comeback from Vincent van der Voort with his compatriot coming from two down to win through to the third round at the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship.

Despite taking the lead early, Meulenkamp was of course dissatisfied after letting it slip.

"I didn't think I was scoring strong in the first two sets", Meulenkamp told RTL7Darts. "But if you can make up for that with your finishes. You win games."

"I thought if the first dart is right, it will be fine. But it just didn't work out."

Van der Voort got into the game better and made it 2-2. "Then it will be all or nothing", continued Meulenkamp. "It was his set and at the end I just came up short."

Meulenkamp continued to talk critically about his first dart, which, according to him, always did not fall in the right place. "Throw a treble with that first dart. Scores like 134 or 140 are nice, but I'm used to throwing more 180s. If that doesn't work, it doesn't feel right."
