Price after comeback win to deny Clayton at New Zealand Darts Masters: "Thankfully I improved and showed why I'm World Number One"

Gerwyn Price nailed six consecutive legs to defeat his compatriot, Jonny Clayton 8-4 and seal the New Zealand Darts Masters.

A first World Series of Darts Tour title for Price, he achieved his aim set out before Australia and New Zealand of claiming a title and said post match that he showed why he is World Number One in the end.

“It feels fantastic,” said Price. “Fair play to Jonny. I think he upped his game in the final, but thankfully I improved after the break and showed why I’m world number one.

“I think I was quite fortunate to win the last leg before the break, and I knew if I upped my scoring game I would have a chance.

“The crowd were absolutely awesome. They supported both of us tonight and they were magnificent. Thank you New Zealand!"
