Friday afternoon sees the start of the European Darts Grand Prix. The event will be held in Sindelfingen from 26 to 28 May and is considered the ninth Euro Tour tournament of 2023.
The first session will start with a double Dutch duel as Jermaine Wattimena faces Gian van Veen. Pascal Rupprecht will be one of the leading Germans to watch facing Christian Kist, while Martijn Kleermaker will face Alan Soutar.
Madars Razma meets Ritchie Edhouse in the first round, while Krzysztof Ratajski will battle it out with Graham Usher to see who makes it to the second round in Sindelfingen. Ross Montgomery plays against Marko Kantele, and Ian White lays on against Ricky Evans. Former World Youth Champion Keegan Brown was paired with Marcel Walpen in the draw.
Walpen has been a standout on the SDC tour over the past year or so in Switzerland and also reached the latter stages of a Challenge Tour recently. A potential shock on the cards?
This year, for the first time, the Euro Tour tournaments will be broadcast by Viaplay. The afternoon sessions start at 12:00, while the evening sessions start at 18:00.
Furthermore, the European Darts Grand Prix can be watched via PDC TV. A subscription is required to access this live stream.
During each Euro Tour tournament, £175,000 in prize money is distributed. All qualifiers are guaranteed £1,250, while the top-16 seeded players on the European Darts Grand Prix will receive £2,500 anyway. However, these 16 players must win their first game in the second round for the prize money to actually count towards the world rankings and other rankings.
Per win, the prize money earned increases. Thus, the finalists already get a minimum of £12,000. The winner of the tournament goes home with the top prize of £30,000.
