Michael van Gerwen's final victory at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam was the 50th major title in 'Mighty Mike's' career. The 34-year-old Dutchman is just the second darter ever to achieve this milestone.
The absolute leader in terms of major titles is, of course, darts legend
Phil Taylor. With 84 major titles at the PDC, the 16-time world champion still has a street-length lead over Van Gerwen. Van Gerwen took almost 11 years to capture his 50 major titles. His first was the World Grand Prix in 2012. It proved to be the starting point of a very successful career.
Van Gerwen's palmares now include three world titles, three World Matchplay titles, seven Premier League titles, four European Championship titles, three Grand Slam titles, seven Players Championship Finals titles, five Masters titles, three UK Open titles, six World Grand Prix titles, one Champions League of Darts title, three World Cup of Darts titles and, finally, five World Series Finals titles.
Joint third on the perennial list of PDC major titles are
James Wade and
Raymond van Barneveld with both having 11 major titles.
Gary Anderson,
Peter Wright and
Gerwyn Price all stand at nine major titles at the PDC, while
Adrian Lewis has eight.
Jonny Clayton stands at six, while
Rob Cross rounds out the top-10 with four major titles.
