Whitlock "over the moon" after dumping out Van Gerwen: "He had an off day and I took advantage of that"

Simon Whitlock has blown this year's World Matchplay wide open after dumping out Michael van Gerwen and denying him an elusive third title once again.

Whitlock will now take on Gary Anderson in the Quarter-Finals; as he aims for another shock and he was pleased after breaking a duck of 15 consecutive losses to the World Number One.

“I’m over the moon. Michael is the best player on the planet; but he had an off day and I took advantage of that," said 'The Wizard' post match to Online Darts. Despite a stunning win, Whitlock won't dream yet as he maintains he will take every match as it comes: “I’m just going to take it one match at a time. I know I’m playing amazing this year.”
