Peter Wright faced off against Fallon Sherrock in a game which 'Snakebite' dominated after the pre match billing but he believed it would have been a different story had the Queen of the Palace played like she has before.
Wright now is set for a tie with Gabriel Clemens in a rematch of their World Championship tie which 'The German Giant' won.
"It was ok. Obviously I got let off there, Fallon missed doubles normally she's pretty hot on the doubles. Every time she's got a shot at a double 9/10 she'd hit it in all other TV games you've seen her play. It's over a short format as well, thankful for the win but I look forward to playing her in the Last 8 where it's over the long distance where she can relax and I can relax," said Wright post match.
Barren spell and picking events
Since the World Matchplay, it has been duly noted that Wright hasn't been at his best and he admitted he didn't want to play darts or be at certain tournaments recently.
"I reset myself. I needed to get away, I didn't want to be at the World Series or Barnsley. I was just having to be there, I didn't want to play darts. I didn't want to do anything, I needed a couple of days."
This leads to the age old debate of picking and choosing tournaments and for the former World Champion, he will start doing it more now he's getting older.
"If I was like Michael Smith and Joe Cullen's age, I'd be like I want to play in everything. I've tried that in the past few years, I'm getting too old. This year I said to myself, get myself to certain tournaments and that's it."
