Without impressing,
Rob Cross and
Damon Heta became the first two players to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the
New Zealand Darts Masters in Hamilton on Friday morning.
Cross even had an average of 82.80 to deal with Warren Parry, who in turn did not exceed an average of 76.29. There was a particularly poor performance on the doubles. Throughout the matches both players missed a total of 24 darts.
Especially in the fourth leg, Cross and Parry were having a superb leg. Then 'Voltage' missed ten before finally taking the leg with a 29-darter, after Parry himself had missed nine laying opportunities. With a 106 finish Cross kept his break, before deciding the match with a 14-darter in the ninth leg.
Heta's average also finished below ninety with 89.54. Fortunately for 'The Heat', opponent Darren Herewini also recorded only 80.95 average. The win was a 6-2 triumph for the Australian, who is among the eight PDC delegates in 'Down Under' due to a cancellation of Jonny Clayton.
