Highest pairs averages ever at World Cup of Darts: Poland begin first year as record holders after Dutch dominance

The World Cup of Darts is the only PDC tournament in the year where pairs matches are played instead of individual matches. In the past, especially the Dutch team with Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld excelled at playing pairs, but the highest pairing average has been held by Poland since 2023.

Krzysztof Ratajski and Krzysztof Kciuk managed to improve the 2023 world record by throwing a pairs average of 118.10 in their match against Lithuania. That match ended in a 4-1 victory for the two Polish darters. Two years earlier at the 2021 World Cup of Darts, Ratajski and Kciuk were also responsible for a 104.97 average, the 10th highest pairing average ever at the World Cup of Darts.

No fewer than five of the 10 highest pairing averages at the Nations Tournament are in the name of Van Gerwen and Van Barneveld. On the all-time list, the two Dutchmen are second, third, fourth, seventh and ninth.

In 2014, the Netherlands threw an average of 117.88 against Northern Ireland. In addition, the Dutch threw averages of 111.33, 109.33, 107.77 and 105.17 during the pair matches at the World Cup of Darts. Australia (109.31 in 2022 and 108.41 in 2010) and Belgium (105.48 in 2013) are the other two countries in the top-10 with highest team averages.

The 2024 World Cup of Darts is scheduled for June 27-30 in Frankfurt. Wales is the defending champion at the nations tournament, having faced Scotland in the final.
