Gian van Veen continues to do extremely well on his debut at the
European Championship. The 21-year-old Dutchman defeated
Daryl Gurney 10-6 in the second round.
"I think neither of us were playing our best but just happy with the win," Van Veen said post-match to Online Darts. "It was all new you know. I've never had a break after five or 10 legs before. When we went back up on the stage I was like; okay now it's just best of nine so I think that really helped me but it's all experience."
A major point of contention in the match was a seeming wind that was crossing the stage. Though it was Gurney who was most affected, Van Veen also felt it. "Yeah it was bad, especially the first couple of legs," he admits. "He was dealing with it like he was and when he's annoyed, I want to be better."
Van Veen will take on
Michael van Gerwen in the quarterfinals. "I never played Michael so I want to play him and I want to see what it's like up there against the best in the world."
