The second semi-final has been confirmed at the
Gibraltar Darts Trophy as alongside Rob Cross facing Peter Wright,
Michael van Gerwen will take on
Damon Heta in two battles of
European Tour winners this season and players overdue their first title.
Van Gerwen sealed repeat against Nathan Aspinall in a high quality affair which saw a 6-4 win for MVG as 'The Asp' couldn't make it three Dutch scalps in a row despite a 103.7 average to 99.5 from the victor.
The first leg proved decisive as Aspinall was broken after missing 107, an 84 checkout was pinned by Mighty Mike to go 1-0 up and from there 'The Asp' could not claim that break back with MVG hitting finishes of 80 and 104 to keep him at arms length.
In the tenth leg, Aspinall got a chance to break but missed double 12 from 97 and Van Gerwen sealed it on his fourth match dart.
Next up is Heta who was too strong in a 6-4 win over Gabriel Clemens in the other Quarter-Final. Similar to the MVG tie, Heta broke to open with a 63 checkout for an 11-darter.
Clemens held next time around with a 117 checkout and broke with a 96 checkout before taking a 3-2 lead but Heta held and broke again with a 70 checkout with missed darts costing the German. From there, he consolidated and held on double eight to seal it.
