Royden Lam caused a huge upset by eliminating Gary Anderson in the first round of the Shanghai Darts Masters. Lam claimed victory after a legdecider. The 42-year-old from Hong Kong took optimally profit from Anderson, who missed plenty of doubles in the beginning of the game.
The Scotsman should have been 3-0 up, but instead he lost two of the first three legs. However, Anderson showed resilience as he came back from a deficit twice. But, Lam had the advantage to start the final leg and took the win as he hit double 8.
Lam is the only Asian representative in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Darts Masters. Michael van Gerwen delighted the Chinese crowd earlier this afternoon as he produced a 170 checkout.
