Roos van der Velde is one of the upcoming talents in women's darts. The 18-year-old Dutchwoman is currently mostly active on the PDC Women's Series.
"I was like 12 I think when I started practicing and I was 13 when I was a bit serious about it and tried to get to the bigger tournaments," she tells Weekly Dartscast. "I started because of my brother, (PDC Tour Card holder Jurjen)".
Van der Velde had her biggest success at the Dutch Open 2022, where she won the junior tournament. "It was amazing because a few years before that I also was in the final and I didn't throw that well," she recalls. "Yeah it was an amazing feeling."
Van der Velde is also a regular nowadays on the PDC Women's Series. "It was great to have a bit of a step up to the Women's," she says in reference to her leap from Juniors darts. "I'm now third in the Netherlands for the women and step by step it just gets better."
"Sometimes I'm struggling with my nerves because I'm just very excited to play and I put too much pressure on myself," she continues. "I really want to do well. It's the PDC Women's Series, the biggest and the best players in the world are there and you want to prove to yourself you're part of that."
"The Dutch ladies are pushing each other to the next level," she concludes. "We have now many good players now."
