We have advised non-UK players to consider remaining at the hotel over Christmas in case of travel restrictions. Most if not all look like they will do that
Michael van Gerwen was looking forward to spending the days leading up to Christmas with his family, but the world number one was forced to return to London on Sunday, where the PDC World Darts Championship is played.
Van Gerwen started the World Championship on Saturday with a convincing 3-1 victory over Ryan Murray. The 31-year-old Dutchman drove back to the Netherlands on Sunday morning to spend a few days with his wife and two children.
However, during the day more reports came out that the borders to the United Kingdom would be closed. In order not to jeopardize his world title chances, Van Gerwen decided to return to London very quickly on Sunday afternoon, where he arrived again on Sunday evening.
The PDC has adviced non-British players to stay in the players hotel over Christmas in case of travel restrictions. PDC CEO Matthew Porter said on Twitter it looked like most if not all players are doing that.

Ok, so I spend Christmas in London, with new rules today, the decision made it simple for me. Hard to leave family but they understand and encourage me for this decision. Very important event for players, @OfficialPDC @WilliamHill @SkySportsDarts and fans. 👍
