Wessel Nijman took the title Sunday at the second ranking tournament of the NDB season. This tour is open to all Dutch players who do not have a PDC Tour Card.
Nijman has that Tour Card from 2024, so he was still eligible to play in the NDB tournament in Zutphen. Besides Nijman, other participants included Josephus Schenk, Derk Telnekes, Jelle Klaasen, Ryan de Vreede, Berry van Peer and
Wesley Plaisier.
Nijman conceded only four legs in his first four matches against Tonny Wigbers (4-1), Ivo Leeksma (4-0), Patrick Maat (4-1) and Carlo van Peer (4-2). Then Nijman crawled through the eye of the needle against Martin van Velzen, who left six match darts unused to beat Nijman.
Then in the semi-final match, Nijman played his best match of the tournament. Thanks to an average of 108.91, Berry van Peer was left defenseless 5-0. The final was also an easy win for the North Hollander. Nijman won 2-0 in sets from Wesley Plaisier. In both sets, the 23-year-old dart player did not surrender a single leg.
For Nijman, this title means a good dress rehearsal for the World Darts Championship. Nijman managed to qualify through the PDC Development Tour this year for the tournament at Alexandra Palace, where he will make his debut in December.
