Ian White claimed his first win at the PDC World Darts Championship defeating Chris Landman on Saturday afternoon to confirm his spot.
White will now face Gary Anderson and was glad to get through the mental barrier that is previous defeats on that stage.
"I watched his game when he played Scott Mitchell and he never missed a double, he got down to like 56 and he was always taking that out and I thought I've got to punish him here and when I got ahead I hit a big score and he followed me with nothing. I got the game I wanted over the last two years if you look at that, 100 averages and losing in the first round, I'll take any average and get through," said White post match.
"You just want that bit of luck to get through that first round and then you can enjoy Christmas. I've gone out with 100 averages and seen people go through with 83. It's horrible."
The slide of White in the Order of Merit has been well documented and he said it's due to no fault of his own.
"It's hurt me. No European Tours and I've just been having all the money taken off my rankings. There's nothing I can do about it and it's hard work. You wouldn't believe how badly it hurt me watching myself go down the rankings and nothing you can do about it just sitting people overtake you."
