Beau Greaves has decided to compete at the Women's World Championship at Lakeside in December. That automatically means that 'Beau 'n' Arrow' will not compete in the PDC's World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.

The PDC recently announced that they would not be allowed to compete in the WDF World Championship prior to their world championship. That directly affected Greaves, Luke Littler and Berry van Peer. They had qualified for both World Championships, so they had to choose which to compete in. Littler and Van Peer soon preferred to compete in Ally Pally.

Greaves was expected to choose Lakeside. The WDF proudly announced Wednesday morning that Greaves has indeed chosen the tournament at Lakeside. On their website, she explains her decision.

"I'm still in the early stages of my darting career and having the opportunity to become a multiple-time World Champion is hugely motivating," Greaves said. "I'm playing well at the moment and I can't wait to get back out on that stage in December."

It was a stupid decision by the PDC. I can understand if she was in the men's event at Lakeside perhaps, but they should have allowed her to defend her Women's title and still entered the main PDC event. I mean the benefits of being able to refer to her as a current women's world champion on air alone.

proud of her for telling them where to shove it. hope she continues to do so.

It’s a gamble though that could in the long term bite her on the arse. WDF are struggling for sponsors, no broadcasters have an interest in this hence why its going on youtube (or has this changed?). It would not surprise me at all if the WDF went the same way as the BDO then all that would be left for the womens side of the game would be the current PDC offerings. I cannot see that there is a potential career in darts via the WDF. I hope i am wrong as the PDC really could do with a competitor at their level.

i'm not disputing that, but i don't really see how this decision would bite her. the PDC's doors will remain open to her, she'll be back on the women's series next year. they aren't stupid enough to bear a grudge against a potential cash cow, personally i think they're pretty likely to soften their stance if beau holds her ground, if not this year then soon. i would also be pretty annoyed if i were beau though, this is just another instance of the PDC moving goalposts as it suits them with no concern for the players (or women's darts which they pretend to care about the growth of), and the more people who stand up to it the better. granted, i also don't think beau enjoys playing against the men very much so it could turn out that she does lack the ambition to 'break the next glass ceiling', and if she just spends her whole career doing what she wants with no regard for what others expect of her i'd personally respect and admire her tenfold for that.

Exactly. The main takeaway from this isn't whether Beau should have chosen WDF or PDC. The main takeaway is, it is absolutely appalling that she had to make a choice in the first place. She qualified for both tournaments on merit. The PDC are a total disgrace to have done this to her and other players as well. If they announce it at the start of the year it's different but this is a disgrace.

Except it won't. The PDC system these days is an open one these days, anyone can enter their Q school/development tour and qualify for a card and the qualification process for other women's places are also well defined and open to her, none of that disappears with this decisions. The only possible issue could be being less likely to receive invites to the World Series and they are unlikely while Sherrock is still playing at a good level anyway as she will always be their #1 choice.

Fallon could actually play at Lakeside, I think the lure of a World Championship is more appealing on paper, but the PDC will dangle the world series carrot and other opportunities to earn. The bottom line is do you want a pay day or become World Champion.

Bucko4009 29 September 2023 at 14:00+ 320

She isn't qualified my friend!

Bucko4009 29 September 2023 at 11:48+ 320

To richie burnettrocks, There you have it in a nutshell my friend. They must have been cacking themselves earler in the womens series, and especially after the match play! So they ( effectively ) make sure by announcing what they did!(when they did!)

Bucko4009 03 October 2023 at 12:26+ 320

To the corsair, how so. All the top women( bar fallon sherrock!) will be at lakeside, she is defending her Womens world championship( the only one there is) and mark porter and the PDC attempted to blackmail her( after promising her a place via matchplay winner and womens series winner and then last week reneging on that promise!! She knows it is highly unlikely she would win the PDC championship, She probably WILL win her 2nd womens. WORLD championship!( i have previously commented on this) It now allows (probably) mark porter to invite fallon and mikaru to play at the PDC's as they are 2nd and 3rd in the womens series. Respect to Beau for telling them to stick their promises where the sun dont shine!!!

Mysstree 29 September 2023 at 10:24+ 689

Win an easy £25000 at an amateur championship or to win the same amount at a world level professional event you have to get through three potentially tough matches? If its about the money i know which route i would take. If its about my career as a dart player and stoking interest in the womens game then i would probably opt for the tougher route however when your 19 years old you often make the wrong choices. Winning the WDF championship generated how much interest outside of the small darting fraternity? Fallon Sherrock getting through two rounds at the PDC generated publicity you couldn’t buy. I actually think that Beau has the game to get through the first two rounds of the PDC Worlds and to push even further however the mental strength is clearly not there yet. Part of the learning curve is how you handle defeat, your not going to learn much about yourself by sweeping aside competition that would struggle in most men’s super leagues.

Bucko4009 03 October 2023 at 12:27+ 320

You ever played darts, you certainly hav't had to get over dartitis! Mental strength is not something this young lady is short of! ThePDG reneged on promises made , end of!. She has done the right thing!

Mysstree 04 October 2023 at 19:39+ 689

Played for a number of years highest level being kent super league. Won some local competitions including beating one of the then top Kent county players. Ran one of the largest Kent local leagues that at its height stretched to 48 teams. I also had dartitis which i did manage to play through but it never completely goes. So yes i do have some experience. At 19 no one has the mental strength of years of competition, even MVG when first joining the PDC struggled and could not win the Youth World title yet he went away and done what was required. Beau Greaves has the talent now she just needs the slog, unfortunately in the WDF womens events there are very few (actually none currently) who can really push her. Financially short term view i would pick an easy £25 grand which is virtually guaranteed, long term is it the right decision? We will see.

Bucko4009 29 September 2023 at 14:06+ 320

Apologies, i stand corrected! Still don't agree with your original premise. The PDC through mark porter reneged on original qualifying remit( with NO caveats!) when it looked like their "darling " might not make it! Beau ,in my opinion, has made the right call. Once again ,sorry for my assumptions of your darting ability my friend.

richieburnettrocks 16 February 2024 at 10:55+ 1443

Ultimately Beau has a World Championship to defend and being a two time World Champion holds more prestige than just being at the PDC championship and winning a game or two. I would prefer 8 ladies having their own World Championship in the PDC, they could massage their games in amongst the men's, like they do at Lakeside. The quality of numerous men's World Championship qualifiers is dubious, so they could have a World Championship for the ladies, why just the Matchplay. Will the PDC now give Fallon this spot now, I like Fallon and she does play good darts but it always seems they do as they please for her to part of the show.

Pharaoh98 05 October 2023 at 16:07+ 41

Fallon was set to qualify for Ally Pally anyway. Beau's spot will go to the PDPA qualifier. This changes absolutely nothing for Fallon

TheCorsair 28 September 2023 at 21:27+ 49

Thought she was more ambitious. Didn't do herself justice last year.

Bucko4009 03 October 2023 at 12:27+ 320

AND which part of Womens world champion( the ONLY one) and Womens matchplay champion, oh, and Womens series winner do you not understand. Methinks you need to read a bit more mate if you think Beau lacks ambition!
