Michael Smith was dumped out of the 2020 PDC World Championship at the hands of Luke Woodhouse who played exceptionally in a 3-1 win.
Smith reacted afterwards and admitted that he shouldn't be losing to a 97 average and that it takes away all he has worked for all year.
Despite that, he sees the next few weeks as fuel to get himself together again for next year and he simply said he wasn't good enough against the Bewdley ace.
"It's been the story of my year I think. It's just one of them I didn't turn up and credit to Luke he did," said Smith in an interview with Dan Dawson after his defeat.
"A 97 average shouldn't even be touching me... it just takes away your whole year, you turn up for the biggest tournament and play like a moron"
"It's one of those things, I've got four weeks off and two weeks till I go on holiday. So I have a lot of time to reflect and get ready for 2020."
"I could use 100 excuses but I wasn't good enough," added Smith.
